What to Expect

Initial Consultation

Initial consultation, 30 minutes, Free
In this conversation, I will ask you about what you'd like to improve about your English speech. I will ask you about how you use English, for example:

• How do you know that people have trouble understanding you?
• What do you do to help people understand you?
• Do you have an important event that you want to prepare for?
• What is something that would make you feel like a good communicator?
• How will you know when you are successful?

I will describe what I recommend and how I would work with you. If your English still requires more learning and improvement in grammar, basic vocabulary, and overall proficiency, then I may recommend that you continue to develop your English with an English as a second language school or tutor before working with me.

How it Works

Evaluation of your speech and a written assessment will be the first step to identifying and prioritizing your goals. You will receive the detailed reports for each area that I assess: Intonation, Rhythm, Individual Sounds, and Word Connections. I summarize the results in a report and prioritize your top 5 Goals to get started working on. Together, we will create a plan that includes how you use English and in what areas you'd like to improve in the most. 

Lessons are one-to-one meetings on Zoom and involve speaking tasks, including: 

• Instruction on pronunciation individual sounds
• Conversational (informal) and professional (formal) speaking styles 
• Non-verbal communication
• Vocabulary and language specific to your daily life (work and social)
• Specific speaking situations you want to prepare for (presentations, interviews, etc.) ​

Practice in the forms of audio recordings, written observations, and verbal interactions is required.

• Feedback is provided in written form and audio/video form
• Re-record the same practice material to keep making improvements or record new material as many times as you want before the next lesson. 
• The practice will include your vocabulary and material you want to practice

Materials

No required books or materials to buy.

• There are no required books for this instruction. This is not a course designed by a company or someone else. I will provide documents, slideshows, audio recordings, and worksheets based on your specific vocabulary needs and goals.
• We will also use any vocabulary and material that you want to practice. Using actual materials that you use daily is the best way to learn language in context.
• ​All content is shared in Google Drive so having a gmail account is necessary.
